And I'd add, if it's truly the only ambition, to be a great tennis player, once again, focus on that for now. She's 10 ffs!

Er, that's exactly what I meant. I reckon being getting better at tennis should be the current goal as a 10 year old, not working on an Instagram account. There's a reason it has an age restriction.
The sponsorship will come eventually if she's good enough, and I hope she is.

Not if they don't know you exist. Junior tennis is hardly big news, and companies don't spend time scouring the circuit looking for potential sponsorship opportunities. You need to work getting interest up yourself.
Lots of amateur athletes have to go out off their own back and raise sponsorship to fund themselves.

I know nothing about how to become a tennis pro but I would imagine being better than everyone else and winning the top junior tournaments gets you the top coaches and sponsors?
Surely this will just drive her to feel rewarded for having lots of followers rather than being good at tennis? As she moves through puberty will she be motivated by tennis excellence or lots of attention? I don't mean to be negative but I have a ten year old and I wouldn't want them already addicted to social media attention, she'll have enough of that to deal with later.
Plus if their age limit is 13 then they aren't going to reactivate it, are they?

Eerie - you don't get anywhere in tennis, or most sports nowadays, unless you have some talent, a will to win, and a willingness to work hard at what you want to succeed. She wants to be a professional tennis player and win tournaments, and she has the same passion as a 10 year old boy who wants to be the next Bobby Moore (fuck, showing my age there). None of us would say that was unimportant. I also know no girl her age who works as hard as she does at getting where she is. If she didn't do the work (about 15 hours a week right now) she wouldn't be there. Nothing in life is free anymore and I take my hat off to her.

She's 10 years old mate. I'd suggest there's more important things than that to focus on.

Thanx - that would be wonderful.
And yes, you have it exactly right. The account is simply to try and get some sponsorship. Sure, she is happy to post her wins and other news, but she has her own account for doing the "Look at ME!!" stuff. Her head is screwed in right, she just wants to win.....

Not as such, she just oversees it. My girl does the posts and Mum just makes sure she puts the right stuff up. We're well aware of the nasties lurking on the internet.

Thanks for the replies, gents
In no particualr order:
Rossal - thanks for that. I didn't find any link to that on the Instagram site nor in the app. She didn't get an e-mail. That would have been ideal.
Penners - you don't have to tell them how old you are when you open an account. I know many of her friends and contemporaries have accounts, and I am sure there are millions worldwide.
Alan - tried that very page and again, everything falls short when you fill in the forms. They simply don't work. As you will have read on that page, no doubt. :)
Trevor - no one in the family has a Twitter account. Facebook is an option but I haven't gone there yet. I have never had a response to a query on an official FB page with a big firm, so don't hold out much hope there. Oh, and after 17 years I have a good idea of who's WHO on here, no worries!
Grumpster - thanx for the suggestions
Eerie - some truth in that, but then you don't get the sponsorship unless you market yourself. She also would not have got the invite to the international tournament this spring if she wasn't making a nuisance of herself. Racquets are the main expense - getting towards €200 a pop every two months, plus a re-string for €40 a time, which tends to happen with alarming regularity now. She breaks a string almost every tournament.....
El Scorchio - thank for the suggestion, can't find a phone number for FB. Do you have one?
di-kezio - good idea but for the fact she is now locked out of her account and had no way to contact anyone - plus no one has Twitter here. We're following up the 'hacked' route, but it again fails when the form needs to be filled in. Their system is broken, full stop, and this seems to be the standard internet truth
Mike - yes, silly but possible. We've seen another account of a friend taken down by someone's complaints.
All good, and thanks a bunch for the feedback.

Not gutted at all thanks Rossal. The whole 'gutted' thing is a bit childish, it seems to suit you though.

If Plankton's wife is running it on behalf of his daughter that shouldn't be a problem. After talking to them maybe in future things will just have to be written 'about' her rather than as if they were posted by her (assuming that's how it's currently being done)
It does seem a big shame for the girl though, especially when you look at instagram or facebook and see thousands of obvious joke or false accounts which are never shut down. Bit like WHO, really.... :)

not just at the loss of the photos
If its Iphone there should be a instragram folder of all the uploads. Or the photo would of been picked from the camera roll anyway. You shouldnt lose any photos.

just found this...
Instagram requires everyone to be at least 13 years old before they can create an account (in some jurisdictions, this age limit may be higher). If your child is younger than 13 and created an account on Instagram, you can show them how to delete their account.

I think the idea of the account is to raise exposure and awareness to hopefully get sponsors etc on board rather than just for the sake of 'being famous'.
I think most tennis players actually view being famous as an annoying but unavoidable circumstance in their quest to become one of the best in the world at their sport.
